Living on an island, I often get to watch gannets in the Hauraki Gulf as they dive from great heights to catch fish. This necklace of diving gannets aims to capture the dive sequence of these incredible birds as they fold themselves into a streamlined torpedo shape before plunging into the sea. The birds are hand cut from fine silver sheet, and the golden head and neck of the birds are detailed by attaching a layer of fine 24k gold foil using the keum boo process. Wing tips are darkened by oxidising using a liver of sulphur solution.
